If you haven't read Book 1 yet, you might want to soon! Barring no obstacles, I'm on pace to finish Book 2 in time for Christmas!

RIDGELY RAILS LEGACY

Follow three generations of women through the most dynamic and rapidly changing times in American history.

Ella Mae is born on the Eastern Shore of Maryland in small farming town experiencing the boom of railroad expansion in the wake of the Civil War. Her dream is to become a novelist during a time when that occupation is reserved for men.

Her daughter, Sophie, comes of age during the Great War. As the young men go overseas to fight for democracy, women are fighting their own battle at home for the right to vote.

Gloria, Sophie's daughter, must face the challenges of the Second World War, stepping out of the conventional role previously held by women to make a place for herself in an era of uncertainty and chaos.

Each woman must find her own way through the struggles of her generation, holding onto faith, family, and the men they love.

First of all, I'd like to thank everyone who came out to the Strawberry Festival on Sunday despite the forecasted storms. We were very lucky that they didn't roll in until evening!

I was surprised by how many people asked if the model on the cover of this novel was me or my daughter. While that would have been very cool, I'm afraid it's much cheaper to use a stock photo. I guess she does bear some resemblance to me, now that I look at it closely.

The background of the cover is the Ridgely Train Station, which was recently renovated by the Ridgely Historical Society. Rick and Cathy Schwab did not know I intended to use it on the cover of a novel when they began working on restoring it to its earlier appearance. As luck would have it, it was finished at precisely the time I was ready to call my graphic designer (Jody Christian of Christian Graphic Designs in Annapolis) to come out and take photos.

She always works her magic, photo-shopping, texturizing, and tweaking until we have a beautiful cover!

As an interesting side note, if you look at the covers of books 1 and 3 in my first series, OF WIND AND SKY, the model actually is yours truly. I have my face averted so that you cannot clearly see me, since I am representing two completely different characters on those covers! I was able to borrow those dresses from the Queen Anne's Historical Society in Centreville, MD.
